Can Our Loved Ones See Us From Heaven?
For many of us, the idea that our loved ones who have passed away are watching over us from Heaven is a comforting thought. We like to believe that they can see us and that they are still aware of what is going on in our lives. But is this true? Can our loved ones in Heaven look down and see us on Earth?
We Are Surrounded By A Great Cloud Of Witnesses
We turn to the Bible for guidance on this matter, specifically to the book of Hebrews. In Hebrews 12:1, we read,
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (NIV)
This verse tells us that we are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses.” The word “witnesses” here can be translated as “spectators“. So, this scripture is telling us that we are surrounded by a great cloud of spectators. But who are these spectators?
The answer becomes clear when we look at the context of this verse. Hebrews 11 is often referred to as the “Hall of Faith” because it contains a long list of men and women from the Old Testament who had great faith in God. These men and women include Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, and many others. In other words, the “Great Cloud of Witnesses” that surrounds us are those who have gone before us in faith.
How This Applies To Our Loved Ones In Heaven
So what does this have to do with whether or not our loved ones in Heaven can see us? Well, the fact that we are surrounded by this great cloud of witnesses tells us two things. First, it tells us that our loved ones who have died in Christ are indeed in Heaven. Second, it tells us that they can see us and are watching over us from above.
This is a comfort to know because it means that we are never alone. We always have someone watching over us—someone who loves us and wants what is best for us. So even though we may not be able to see them or communicate with them directly, we can rest assured knowing that our loved ones in Heaven can see us and are aware of what is going on in our lives.

1. Pray to Them
Praying is a great way to feel close to your loved ones in Heaven. When you pray, you are opening up a line of communication with them. You can pray for guidance from your loved ones, or simply talk to them about your day. It can be helpful to light a candle while you pray, as this can create a feeling of peace and calm.
2. Stay Connected to Their Memory
One way to stay connected to your loved ones’ memory is by keeping their belongings close by. If you have a piece of jewelry or clothing that belonged to them, wear it often. You could also display photographs of them around your home. Keeping their memory alive will help you feel closer to them.
3. Spread Their Legacy
One way we can keep our loved ones’ legacies alive is by sharing their story with others. This could be done by writing about them, telling stories about them, or even just mentioning them in conversation. When we keep their memory alive, it helps us feel closer to them.
4. Help Others In Their Name
Another way we can stay close to our loved ones in Heaven is by helping others in their name. This could be done by volunteering, donating money, or simply helping someone in need. By performing acts of kindness, we honor our loved ones and keep their memory alive.
5. Talk to Them Out Loud
One last thing you can do to feel close to your departed loved ones is simply talking out loud to them. You can tell them about your day or share your thoughts and feelings with them—they’re always listening! Talking out loud is a great way to feel closer to those we’ve lost.
Although our loved ones who have passed away are no longer with us physically, there are still many ways we can connect with them and keep their memory alive.
